Visions of Sugarplums
Participation in the Horizons program provided Grand Junction with the information and impetus to apply for a Community Visioning grant funded by Trees Forever and the Iowa D.O.T. And, our Horizons participation played an important role in Grand Junction being selected to receive this grant. There is considerable overlap in people active in both efforts as enthusiasm for community improvement grows.
Through the Community Visioning grant, Grand Junction is receiving creative and technical assistance to help us make plans to make our community more livable and our Main Street more viable and attractive. Thru this effort, we may have the potential for more services and more business development in the future which would lead to more jobs, less poverty and more community pride. People from all age groups and income levels are enjoying working together and sharing ideas in this effort.
An additional aspect of the grant is to inform us of and encourage us to apply for more grants which will enable us to carry out some of the visions we are creating for our community. The Horizons 501c3 non-profit status will provide a place to deposit the funds donated or granted to us for the projects.
